  • The average cost of benefits for time-loss claims due to a work-related slip, trip, or fall is $7,341.
  • On average, each slip, trip and fall injury results in 92 days lost from work.

Here’s the good news: There are many simple steps you can take to help protect you, your employees and customers from a slip, trip or fall.

Injuries related to slips, trips and falls are often caused by:

  • wet or oily surfaces
  • spills
  • weather-related hazards like ice and snow
  • loose rugs or mats
  • obstructions,
  • poor lighting
  • uneven walking surfaces

The best way to prevent them inside is to practice good housekeeping and make sure that things like spills, obstacles and poor lighting are dealt with quickly. Outside, it’s also important to deal with hazards when possible, e.g. remove snow, salt icy steps, or fix uneven walkways. When you can’t remove the hazard, proceed carefully and use handrails where they’re available. And whether you work inside or outside, it’s always a good idea to wear sturdy, anti-slip footwear.
